affect_me
affect_me is an (online) communication experiment inspired by (offline) "the semaphore flag signalling system", which is in this case valenced by expressive meaning, thus creating a long distance affect sensitive signalling system.

Project related research has been conducted within the field of communication archaeology, and it’s focused on a specific example of semaphore flag signalling system.

"The Semaphore flag signalling system is an alphabet signalling system based on the waving of a pair of hand-held flags in a particular pattern... The flags are held, arms extended, in various positions representing each of the letters of the alphabet. The pattern resembles a clock face divided into eight positions: up, down, out, high, low, for each of the left and right hands (LH and RH) six letters require the hand to be brought across the body so that both flags are on the same side."

affect_me is produced as an online communication tool, which enable us to code a message by using a semaphore flag alphabet signalling icons which can be valenced by different expressive modes, e.i. expressive features which influence associative word-meaning: <appreciative> <derogatory> <offensive> <euphemistic>

The goal of the project is to design a long distance affect sensitive signalling system, i.e., light massages.
